Guidelines to Quiz 7 and Exercise 7 (Updated April 29, 2007)

 

  1. Both the quiz and exercise will be open-book and open-notes. However, you must complete them within the designated class meeting time. There is no more take-home for the last exercise.
  2. Both of these tests will cover the contents in web mining with an emphasis on the online recommendation system, which is considered a comprehensive use of different web mining concepts and data mining techniques.
  3. The format of the Monday class will be:
    1. 30-minute review of Exercise 6.
    2. 10-minute break
    3. 70-minutes quiz and exercise.

                                                               i.      The quiz will include 2-3 short answer questions for testing the basic concepts in recommendation systems and web mining issues.

                                                             ii.      The exercise will have questions related to a data mining problem for the implementation of recommendation system. You need to use SAS Enterprise Miner to solve problems and respond to the questions with the support of the data mining results.

    3. Your class notes
    4. One of the recommendation system papers in the shared directory \RECOMMENDER_REF. You don’t have to read the complete paper at this stage – just the title, abstract, and conclusions. Pay attention to the publication year and author information.
